As we celebrate this holiday season, the CERT committee would like to share some helpful tips for the safe use of electrical equipment. By following these guidelines, we can ensure a festive and hazard-free environment for everyone.

1. Choose the right type of electrical extension cords for your holiday decorations, ensuring they are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Make sure your outdoor lights are specifically designed for exterior conditions, as moisture and rain can lead to potential electrical hazards, including fires.

2. Keep your electrical circuits and power strips safe by avoiding overloads. When necessary, use three-prong electrical adapters to enhance safety and prevent accidents.

3. Before entertaining guests, take a moment to ensure that all electrical Christmas decorations are secure and child- and pet-proof. This will help create a safe space for everyone to enjoy the festivities.
